The Plan

Juliet came to me after she met with Romeo. I was speaking with Count Paris, Juliet's soon-to-be husband at the time she walked in. Her mother and father had arranged a marriage with her and the Count. The interaction between the two was quite amusing. It was quite obvious that Juliet wanted nothing to do with the Count but he was just too dense to realize it. It was quite reassuring to see that she is still very loyal to Romeo. After the Count left she asked me how she can avoid being wed to the Count. At that moment we started devising a plan.

Our plan may or may not work. It is the probably most foolish plan I have ever done. But, I have faith in Juliet. I have faith that she can do her part of the plan. The plan is that I will give her a potion that will put her the state of death for approximately 48 hours. What she will have to do is to inform her mother and father that she will indeed marry the Count. After she had informed her mother and father, she must drink the potion. However, there must be no one in the room with her when she does so. Her family will believe she had died and will take her body into the Capulet tomb. Meanwhile, I will send a friar to deliver a letter to Romeo informing him of the plan. As soon as Juliet wakes from her deep sleep, Romeo and I will be waiting next to her body. Dear Lord, I ask that you watch over us and give us the luck that we need to succeed in our plan.

My letter to Romeo.

Banished

I have some terrible news. Mercutio, a good friend of Romeo, and Tybalt, a cousin of Juliet, engaged in a duel in the streets of Verona. In the end, Mercutio was slain and taken away by Death. Romeo, filled with rage, killed Tybalt to avenge his friend's death. I had hoped it wouldn't have come to this. This family rivalry needs to stop. Murder is a mortal sin. Those who murder will be sent to Hell. As disappointed I am in Romeo for committing a sin, I really do not care. I am just worried.  Fortunately the Prince decided to only banish Romeo.

Romeo was in my cell a while ago to hide from the authorities. I asked him to come out from hiding in my wardrobe but he continuously refused. Juliet's nurse was able to get him out when she came and visit but when she told him how distraught Juliet was when she heard the news, Romeo attempted to commit suicide. Of course, we were able to stop him from doing so. We told Romeo to go to Mantua. While he is in Mantua I shall try to make Romeo and Juliet's marriage public knowledge. Perhaps this will help the situation. I also told him that before he leaves for Mantua he should meet with Juliet. He should explain to her why everything happened and where he will be going for the time being. I know she will understand him. Oh holy guardian angel, ask the Lord to bless the journey which Romeo undertakes.

I do not understand young men....

I do not understand young men. I just do not understand how their minds work. When Romeo came to my cell he asked me to secretly wed him and the Capulet named Juliet. Just a day ago he would never shut his mouth about how Rosaline is the most beautiful girl he has even seen. I do not think young Romeo understands the meaning of love. I may not have much experience with love, but I do understand that you must not mistake lust for love. Romeo only sees beauty on the outside and never seeks for the beauty in the inside. I fear that if I wed Romeo and Juliet, their love for each other may shatter apart and all the trouble for this secret wedding would have been for nothing. One day in the future, I fear Romeo may even abandon Juliet and find another woman. It is a sin for a man or a woman to sleep with another when they already have a spouse. But what am I saying? I am Romeo's mentor! I will lead him in the correct path.

As much as I disagree with this idea, I must wed them. This wedding may be able to bring the Montagues and Capulets together and finally end their ridiculous feud. I have sent Friar Giovanni to purchase the wedding decorations and set up the wedding in the chapel for tomorrow. Yes, Romeo insisted that I wed him and a girl he has just met tomorrow. I am beginning to greatly regret this decision. Well, it is getting late and I must prepare for tomorrow's wedding. May God be with us.

The Montagues, the Capulets, and the Romeo

The feud between the Capulets and the Montague is getting out of hand! Violent fights have been breaking out in the streets of Verona. Someone needs to stop this madness before they start killing each other. Killing because you want to is a mortal sin. Unlike theft or simply hatred, it cannot be easily forgiven. To this day I do not understand their motivations for fighting. It all started when Lord Montague and Lord Capulet were competing for the same girl during their teen years. Before this competition, however, they were the best of friends. Of course they met the girl, greed and jealousy tore them apart. In the end, Lord Montague won the heart of the girl and left Lord Capulet filled with rage and jealousy. Since then, the Montagues and Capulets have been enemies. In my eyes, these are such foolish reasons to be fighting for. But, maybe that's just because I am a friar.

Speaking of Montagues, I am currently mentoring a Montague by the name of Romeo. He's such a sweet child, confused at times, but sweet nonetheless. Everyday he comes to my cell asking for advice. I show him the Bible and help lead him to a path that would take him to Heaven. Recently he's been coming to me for advice about a girl named Rosaline. I do not not if he knows he is a Capulet or not but he's never stopped talking about her. Quite frankly I am getting a little irritated. Not to mention I actually have no experience with love. I see Romeo walking to my cell outside, perhaps he wants more advice about Rosaline. I must go now and somehow offer him the advice he needs. May God bless you and your family.

An obnoxious artist sent me this drawing of the Montagues and Capulets fighting.
